HOME | FINAL REPORT | MOVIE The Gobi region of Mongolia is in transition as human development changes this region to match the needs of the 21st century. Native animals in the area are on the brink of extinction including the Asiatic wild ass, or Khulan. Since Mongolia harbors the last sustainable population of Khulan, the World Bank and the Mongolian Government recognized that environmental impacts resulting from human development should be assessed. In 2005, Dr. Petra Kaczensky and Dr. Dennis Sheehy embarked on a study to look into the world of the Khulan and see what the future of Mongolia holds for them.
